Eat at Joe's Stone Crab
Joe's Stone Crab is legendary in the seafood scene of Miami Beach, and if you're planning to make a trip or two to this restaurant, Avalon Hotel is within one mile. Begun in 1913 as Joe's Restaurant, the establishment boasts a fascinating history. No one thought stone crabs were edible until 1921, when a conversation between a Harvard ichthyologist and restaurant owner Joe Weiss started a sensation. Now, every stone crab season (May 15 through October 15), the stone crabs that fill the bay also fill dinner plates, served chilled and cracked with mustard sauce.
